Born in Bulli NSW in 1984, Leah Anketell was raised in an abandoned hospital in a small town with a population of 6000. 'Glen Innes' is a town on the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia, known for sapphire fossicking within its creek valley's & production of beef cattle. Leah's paintings originate with her childhood visions & strong influence of the Australian 'outback' culture. After graduating with High Distinctions in Painting, Life Drawing & Sculpture, Leah found work as a "scenic film artist" for Australian films. Generating increasing attention towards her paintings she left the film industry to pursue painting full time and now lives in the Northern Rivers Region of NSW.
In her current series, she uses oil paints and ink on large spectrum canvas and linen combining mostly large scale subjects with a bold pallet that immediately demands attention and curiosity. She is currently considered to be one of the region’s young emerging artists and is exclusive to Ninbella Gallery. Oils and Silver and Gold Leaf on Canvas 122 x 122 cms
