Lae Oldmeadow "Totem of Contemplation #2"
The series ‘Totems of Contemplation’ was produced during a period of dramatic change in the local area. Working on a domestic sewing machine in his solar-powered bush studio, the reclusive artist painstakingly stitches together pieces of Hoop-Pine Bark and other natural fibres that he has collected on his walks through the countryside. Some of these decorative skins are padded with organic cotton and sewn onto canvas painted a rich ultramarine. He stretches these skins over semi-circular plywood frames to create tree trunk sized, three-dimensional totems. totem of contemplation 2 176 x 34 x 10 Palm fibre and Sisal thread padded with cotton
