Grace Knight
GRACE KNIGHT (singer - artist) Was born in Manchester, UK, the third of three children. In 1977 she worked her passage to Australia as a part of the on-board entertainment on the Women’s Weekly World Cruise. She went on to become a founding member and lead singer of the internationally successful pop group, Eurogliders, during the 1980s, and then forged a successful solo career in her own right as one of Australia’s pre-eminent jazz singers. In a career lasting over 40 years Grace is one of the most enduring talents in Australian music, she’s recorded in excess of 200 hundred songs and notched up almost 5,000 live shows, as well as accumulating a number of industry awards and Platinum records. Prior to becoming a successful singer, Grace trained in fashion design and has had a lifelong interest in fashion and textiles. From the outset she designed and made outfits for herself and her band mates and has designed and made the majority of the clothing she has worn on-stage over her 40 years in the business. This has also resulted in her designing fabric and mastering printing and dyeing techniques to bring those designs to life. Relentlessly creative, Grace has made art from materials ranging from concrete to dried gourds over the years, but it is her love of textiles that drew her back and for the past few years she has been working in wool and acrylic yarn, creating by hand these splendid tufted floor or wall hanging pieces.
